What can we say about Harry Webber? At 12 he was the youngest employee of America's first billion dollar corporation, the mighty Pennsylvania Railroad, creating Safety Posters for the world's most dangerous business. At 18 as an aide to Cong. Adam Clayton Powell he was the art director for the March on Washington. At 19 Berry Gordy Jr. brought him to Detroit to design the "look" of the "Motown Sound". At 24 he was hired by Campbell-Ewald to create promotional campaigns for the Chevrolet Corvette. At 28 he migrated to Madison Avenue where he created "I'm Stuck On Band-Aid Brand", "A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste", and "America's Most Misunderstood Soft Drink. Dr Pepper." at Young & Rubicam and gained a spot in the Clio Hall of Fame. Harry also established Madison Avenue's first Minority Training Program for the 4A's in 1971 which is still going strong today. Harry is also credited with such landmark campaigns as "Thanks, I Needed That" for Mennen, "Chow, Chow,Chow" for Purina and "Quality Is Job 1." In 1979 he became a part-time Disco Producer with partners August Darnell and Patrick Adams and gave America "Cherchez La Femme" and "Push, Push in the Bush." After retiring from Madison Avenue in 1984 Harry Webber came to Los Angeles to help launch the California Lottery and work on something called Arpanet ( the Internet) at UCLA. In 1988 he was asked by City Attorney Jim Hahn ( now Mayor Hahn) to come up with a creative way of dealing with the gang crisis. Harry Webber went into the heart of Watts and recruited gang members to tell their side of the war in a video called "Crossfire". This effort resulted in the first formal truce between the Crips and Bloods which is still in effect. In 1990 Harry was retained by Tracy-Locke to relaunch KFC and created the Down Home Freshness Menu that has been credited with beginning the turnsround that helped save the brand. In 1995, Carlos Slim, the richest man in Mexico asked Harry to create the first online industrial exchange for the NAFTRA trading Partners, e-amigo.com. In 1999 Harry wrote "Divide and Conquer : Targeting your customers through market segmentation" for John Wiley & Sons.The book was recently translated into simple Chinese for distribution in the Peoples Republic of China In 2002 Harry consulted with Sun Microsystems to launch their Global Portal Initiative and restage their entry level server line-up. In 2003 Harry launched BrandedFilm to develop sponsor-produced entertaiment properties. BrandedFilm has worked on the 150th Anniversary Celebration of the world-famous Horseshoe Curve in Altoona, PA , developed "2084: The other side of now," for a global IT enterprise with X-Men Producer Tom DeSantos, and "Seeing Red", with Dan Cracchiolo, Producer of "The Matrix." His publishing company, Four Dolphins Press launched the children's marketing epic, "Fantazzzmia: Where Dreams Come From," at ToyFair 2004. Is it any wonder Print Magazine referred to him as "The Legend?" |
